In a recent report, Sport claimed that Real Madrid are set to miss out on Ajax full-back Noussair Mazraoui who has his heart set on a move to Barcelona this summer. It is believed that Los Blancos were eyeing him as a replacement for Dani Carvajal but the player wants to seal a move to the Nou Camp when he becomes a free agent at the end of this campaign.
Mazraoui’s Impressive Form In Dutch Football
Mazraoui is experiencing a productive season at the Johan Cruijff ArenA as he has produced a series of impressive displays on the right side of Ajax’s defence. The 12-time Morocco international has banged in five goals and provided four assists in 31 appearances for the Dutch outfit during this campaign in various competitions.
The 24-year-old has caught the eye by averaging 2.0 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.6 clearances, 1.6 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 85% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Real Madrid Set To Miss Out On Mazraoui: Big Blow For Carlo Ancelotti?
Mazraoui can do a bit of everything on the right flank. He has proven his worth as a decent defender at the back and usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Morocco international can make some decent runs with the ball out on the wide areas and create some inviting chances for others around him. He can even chip in by scoring the odd goal in the final third and is usually quite tidy when playing his way out from inside his half.
Missing out on a full-back of Mazraoui’s quality will be a massive blow for Real Madrid as they needed a good, long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal. Now that the Ajax star has his heart set on a move to Barcelona, Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti would have no choice but to turn his attention elsewhere so that he can strengthen his squad at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the summer.
