In a recent report, The Daily Mail revealed that Real Madrid defender Eder Militao is on the radar of Chelsea. It is understood that the Blues are eyeing a move for the Brazilian centre-back this summer.
Militao’s Decent Form In Spanish Football
The 24-year-old is experiencing a solid campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium after putting in a handful of dominant performances at the heart of Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. Militao has registered two goals and two assists in 38 matches for the Madrid outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The Sertaozinho-born sensation has been a rock at the back for the Spanish outfit based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, 3.0 clearances and 1.0 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been neat with his ball distribution after completing 89.2% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
What Will Militao Add To Chelsea’s First-Team?
Militao has been a dominant presence for Los Blancos on the defensive third of the pitch. He can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his side. The 20-time Brazil international doesn’t take too many chances when clearing his lines at the back. Standing at 1.86m, Militao can pose a threat at the other end from indirect set-pieces.
A player of the Brazilian’s experience and quality will be an excellent addition to Chelsea‘s first XI. He will serve as a good replacement for Antonio Rudiger who has just got a few months left to run in his contract at Stamford Bridge.
At 24, Militao has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for the West London club this summer. We can expect Militao to add more quality to Thomas Tuchel‘s defensive department and could even help the Blues bridge the gap to Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of Premier League football.
However, a lot will depend on what happens to the London club as far as their ownership is concerned and how free they would be to acquire new players at the end of this season.
