Arsenal welcomed Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium earlier tonight as they tried to grind out a result in front of their home supporters. The Gunners went toe-to-toe with the Reds in the first half but could only manage to go into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
Mikel Arteta’s men conceded the opening goal in the 54th minute when Aaron Ramsdale failed to keep Diogo Jota’s powerful shot out of his net. Roberto Firmino doubled Liverpool’s lead just eight minutes later with a calm finish as the North London outfit ended up losing the contest by a 2-0 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Arsenal player fared during the clash against the Reds.
GK: Aaron Ramsdale – 5.5/10
He made one good stop in the game but will be disappointed for getting beaten at his near post in the lead-up to Jota’s goal.
RB: Cedric Soares – 6/10
Soares was solid defensively in the first half but had a tougher time in the second.
CB: Ben White – 6.5/10
The Arsenal centre-half earned possession back a couple of times and cleared his lines when required. However, he won’t be pleased after allowing two goals in the second half.
CB: Gabriel – 6/10
The Brazilian talent kept things tidy at the back in the first 45 minutes. However, his concentration levels dropped a bit after the half-time break.
LB: Kieran Tierney – 6/10
He was full of energy down the left flank but didn’t offer enough support to Martinelli up top.
CM: Thomas Partey – 7/10
The ex-La Liga talent helped Arsenal get some control of the midfield battle. He also made a few powerful runs with the ball going forward.
CM: Granit Xhaka – 6/10
He made two good chances in the final third but should have been more solid defensively in the second half.
RW: Bukayo Saka – 6/10
Saka got overpowered by the Liverpool defenders and had a quiet game on the right-wing.
CAM: Martin Odegaard – 6.5/10
He had a few bright moments but didn’t do enough to register a goal.
LW: Gabriel Martinelli – 7.5/10
Martinelli was by far Arsenal’s best player on the field tonight and went close to scoring with a good attempt. He caused a lot of problems for the opposition by driving to the byline at every chance he got.
ST: Alexandre Lacazette – 6.5/10
The Frenchman tried his best to cause some problems for the Liverpool defence but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
Substitutes:
CAM: Emile Smith Rowe – 6/10
He added some energy to Arteta’s attack.
RW: Nicolas Pepe – 6/10
Pepe hardly got a sniff at goal.
ST: Eddie Nketiah – 6/10
His impact on the game was minimal.
