Recent reports from German media outlet BILD (via Daily Express) suggest that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have been priced out of a move for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku, who is currently valued at a whooping £63m. This should be a massive boost for Manchester United as Ralf Rangnick is reportedly keen on adding him to his forward line in the upcoming transfer window.
‘The 63-year-old is understood to be a huge fan of Nkunku and has encouraged United to consider snapping up the attacker at the end of the season. The forward’s current deal expires in 2024 and it will reportedly take a fee in the region of £63million to price him away from Leipzig.’ – The report stated.
Having come through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain, Christopher Nkunku signed for RB Leipzig in the summer of 2019 for a fee in the region of €15 million. Over the course of the last three seasons, the France international has made 123 appearances for The Red Bulls, bagging 38 goals and netting 42 assists across all competitions. The 24-year-old attacker has been Leipzig’s go-to man for goals this season, netting 26 goals and registering 15 assists in 39 outings across all competitions.
Besides, he has managed to put up some awe-inspiring numbers on the board this term – averaging 2.4 shots, two key passes, two dribbles, and 0.6 crosses per 90 minutes in the German top-flight. Furthermore, with an average WhoScored rating of 7.65, he has been one of the best players on his side this season. Capable of playing anywhere across the frontline, in the midfield, and down the flanks, versatility is one of the Frenchman’s key strengths.
Smart From The Red Devils?
Marcus Rashford has been in terrible form over the past few months, whereas it’s highly likely that Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard will depart the club in the summer. Juan Mata’s contract expires at the end of the season, while Mason Greenwood remains suspended until further notice after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.
Given the circumstances, Manchester United need some fresh recruitments in the attacking department if they intend to strengthen the present squad – and Nkunku fits the bill perfectly. At 24, he has won multiple domestic trophies with Parisians and will add much-needed depth and experience to the United squad. Hence, Rangnick should try and get this deal over the line in the coming months.
