Manchester United are hoping to make a late top-four push as they look to salvage what has so far been a disappointing campaign for them in Premier League football.
Manchester United’s Unimpressive Season Thus Far
The Red Devils were poor in the first half of this campaign as they struggled to find consistency in terms of getting results in the English top-flight. Man United got knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the third round as West Ham United beat them by a 1-0 scoreline at Old Trafford back in September.
The Mancunian giants suffered an embarrassing 5-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool in the Premier League which was followed by a 4-1 loss away at Watford just a few weeks later. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got the sack in the process before Ralf Rangnick was appointed as the new interim manager until the end of this campaign.
The German head coach has also had his fair share of struggles at the Theatre of Dreams which was highlighted by Man United’s surprise exit from the FA Cup following a loss on penalties against Middlesbrough last month. The Red Devils also suffered a 2-1 loss (on aggregate) versus Atletico Madrid which eliminated them from this year’s UEFA Champions League.
What Should Manchester United Boss Ralf Rangnick Aim For This Season?
Man United have currently got little to play as they have been eliminated from all the cup competitions. However, the Red Devils are currently occupying the sixth spot in the Premier League standings and are sitting four points behind fourth-placed, Arsenal having played a game more.
With just nine matches left to run, Rangnick would believe that his men have still got an outside shot at ensuring Champions League football for next season.
However, for that to happen, the Mancunian giants have to make sure that Cristiano Ronaldo is firing on all cylinders so that they can pick up a run of favourable results in league football over the next few months.
Even if Man United end up earning a top-four place, their fans won’t be happy as it has been a frustrating season for the club with little progress being made on the field.
