Manchester City entertained Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium earlier today as they looked to secure a positive result in front of their home supporters. Kevin De Bruyne gave the home team a dream start as he scored in the fifth minute. However, Jadon Sancho equalised for the Red Devils with a great strike in the 22nd minute. De Bruyne struck again just six minutes later as Man City cruised to a 2-1 lead at the half-time break.
Riyad Mahrez scored with an excellent half volley in the 68th minute which killed the game off. The Algerian sensation went on to add another goal in the latter stages as Pep Guardiola’s men ended up winning the Manchester derby by a convincing 4-1 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player performed during the match against Man United.
GK: Ederson – 6.5/10
The Brazilian keeper had to make one save in the game but couldn’t do much about Sancho’s finish in the first half.
RB: Kyle Walker – 7/10
Walker kept a solid defensive shape at the back and had a couple of lively moments in the final third.
CB: John Stones – 6.5/10
The English defender made an important clearance at the back and also engineered one key chance going forward.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 6.5/10
He was strong in the air and distributed the ball relatively well from the back.
LB: Joao Cancelo – 8/10
Cancelo performed his defensive duties well and made a few exciting runs with the ball down the left flank.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 9.5/10
The Belgian midfielder scored two fine goals in the first half and even ended the game with an assist to his name. He undoubtedly deserves to be named the man of the match.
CM: Rodri – 7/10
The Spaniard anchored the midfield really well and orchestrated a good opportunity in the opponent’s half.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 8.5/10
Silva made multiple inviting runs with the ball and managed to create some meaningful openings for others around him.
RW: Riyad Mahrez – 9/10
Mahrez scored a couple of brilliant goals in the second half but was also guilty of missing some good chances as well.
ST: Phil Foden – 7.5/10
He did well to cause a lot of problems for the Man United centre-backs using his dribbling and link-up play.
LW: Jack Grealish – 7/10
Grealish was always looking to create some inviting chances for his teammates. However, he hardly got a sniff at goal.
Substitutes:
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 6/10
He wasted a glorious chance to find the back of the net late in the game.
