Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is strongly on the lookout for Borussia Mönchengladbach and Germany midfielder Florian Neuhaus, Liverpool.com reported. The Reds signed Luis Díaz in January and might not need another attacker, but that stance strongly depends on new contracts for Klopp’s key players.
Why Liverpool are in pursuit of the German starlet?
The Liverpool defence looks settled if Joe Gomez can be retained and Klopp will not be needing any more reinforcements in the defensive half. The goalkeeping department also looks settled even though Adrián could move on.
Midfield is where the most changes can be anticipated, with Naby Keïta and Chamberlain having only less than a year remaining on their contracts and James Milner potentially on his way out of Anfield. Henderson might become that Fabinho number two with time but will still harbour hopes that his minutes will mainly come as a number eight next season, and this is where Neuhaus can bring in his skillset to fill the void.
What will Florian Neuhaus bring to Anfield?
The German international excelled in the Champions League against the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan but when manager Marco Rose left for Borussia Dortmund, Gladbach went downhill in the Bundesliga table. The Foals are just seven points away from the relegation zone and returning into European competition seems a bit far-stretched for now.
As the team’s performances dropped, so did Neuhaus’ individually with his role in the side changing under a new boss. But showing strong signs when employed in a confident team in a position that suits him best, the speedster can be an almost unstoppable talent. It is very evident that even while Neuhaus was struggling domestically, he was still selected for his national side — the bigger picture makes his talent clear.
Neuhaus’ family are Bayern supporters and should the German giants move in for him, then he might choose to go there but Anfield seems like a lucrative destination and could tempt him to try a new league. Having turned 25 last fortnight, there is no doubt that the German international is ready for the next step in his career.
