Aston Villa will face off against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium as they look to secure a positive result on the road. The Villans have suffered back-to-back defeat against West Ham United and Arsenal respectively. Hence, they will be low on confidence going into this edition of the West Midlands derby this weekend.
Steven Gerrard could set his side up in a 4-3-1-2 formation and will probably make one change to his starting XI for this game. We can expect Danny Ings to get a start while Emiliano Buendia drops to the bench.
4-3-1-2 Aston Villa Predicted Lineup To Face Wolves
Defence
Emiliano Martinez will feature in between the sticks for the Villans after shipping in one goal versus the Gunners before the international break. Ezri Konsa will resume his centre-back partnership with Tyrone Mings as they try to maintain a solid shape at the back during the game.
Matty Cash will fill in at right-back while Ashley Young hopes to produce a good showing as the left-back. Gerrard will ask both of them to pick and choose their moments to join in on the attack.
Calum Chambers will have to settle for a spot on the bench as he offers cover for the defensive positions.
Midfield
John McGinn, Douglas Luiz and Jacob Ramsey will make up Gerrard’s midfield as they look to win the 50-50 battles and create some decent chances in the final third.
Philippe Coutinho will play just ahead of them as a free-flowing, attacking midfielder. His main job would be engineer enough clear-cut chances for his teammates to win the game.
Morgan Sanson will have to be content with a place on the bench as he awaits his chance to make an impact in the second half if needed.
Attack
Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings will operate as the strikers for the Villans up top. Both of them will have to share most of the goal-scoring workload in the Wolves half.
Bertrand Traore and Leon Bailey will make up the numbers on the bench and might come on to impress as the second half substitutes if required.
