After a gruelling midweek battle against Red Star Belgrade, Rangers travelled to Dens Park this afternoon to lock horns with Dundee FC. Giovanni van Bronckhorst made a few changes to the starting XI, but an early goal from the hosts put the Gers under immense pressure. However, a second-half comeback ensured all three points keeping them alive in the title hunt.
Below are the Rangers players rated in their nervy 2-1 win against Dundee FC.
Allan McGregor: 5.5
His mastery in Serbia received accolades, but the veteran Scotsman was at fault once again in this Premiership contest. Should have done a lot better to deal with Jordan Marshall’s cross before Christie Elliott’s early opener.
James Tavernier: 7
Did well down the right with his marauding runs, crosses and cut insides in the attacking third. Created an array of chances inside the box, but he skied the spot-kick earned by Alfredo Morelos late in the first half.
Connor Goldson: 8.5
Strong in the air while winning duels, made some no-nonsense clearances, also scored the decisive late winner to cement a victory ahead of the Old Firm derby post-international break.
Filip Helander: 7
Grabbed a start alongside Goldson in the heart of the backline. Looked rusty with his tackles and was eventually taken off at halftime in favour of Fashion Sakala as a tactical tweak.
Calvin Bassey: 7
Lively down the left with his overlapping runs and link-up play with Ryan Kent. Could have been more accurate with his long balls and crosses.
James Sands: 6.5
Combative in the centre of the pitch as he tried his best to snatch possession from the opponents and script swift attacking threats with through balls and down the middle runs. Was replaced by Kemar Roofe midway through the second half moments before Ramsey’s equalizer.
John Lundstram: 7.5
Completed the most passes in the match as he continued to be the driving force from the middle of the park. Made an array of recoveries to unsettle the home side all throughout the game.
Scott Arfield: 5.5
Did not offer much from an advanced midfield role. Misplaced a few passes and was eventually replaced by Joe Aribo at halftime.
Aaron Ramsey: 8
Had a slow start to life in Scotland, but the Wales maestro made his first significant contribution by finding an equalizer midway through the second half. Tested Ian Lawlor on a couple of other occasions and was eventually taken off to make way for Glen Kamara late in the match.
Ryan Kent: 6.5
Looked a bit fatigued down the left and the Dee kept fouling him to disrupt his movements. Not his best game in Rangers colours, particularly after the midweek masterclass versus Red Star Belgrade.
Alfredo Morelos: 6.5
Won a spot-kick at the backend of the first half which, however, was wasted by Tavernier. Could not convert his chances in attack and was eventually replaced by Leon Balogun in the closing minutes of the match.
Rangers Subs Vs Dundee
Joe Aribo: 7
Showed his calmness and composure with the ball at his feet during the second half.
Fashion Sakala: 7
Played his part in Ramsey’s goal. A positive display from the Zambian in an eventful afternoon.
Kemar Roofe: 7
Added more directness and firepower high up the pitch in search of goals.
Glen Kamara: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
Leon Balogun: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
