In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Red Bull Leipzig playmaker is on the radar of Barcelona. It is understood that Barca are facing a major stumbling block in pursuit of the Spanish attacker as Leipzig are unwilling to sell him this summer.
Olmo’s Impressive Form In German Football
Olmo has caught the eye at times by performing at a high level as a key member of Domenico Tedesco’s attack. The 23-year-old has banged in three goals and provided five assists in 18 matches for the German outfit this season on all fronts. However, he has missed a lot of games in this campaign due to a serious muscle injury.
The Spaniard has made most of his league appearances off the bench but has done well to average 1.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. However, he has been a bit sloppy with his ball distribution after completing 75.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Olmo Add To Barcelona Boss Xavi’s Side?
Olmo is a decent playmaker in the final third and can make some promising runs with the ball towards the opposition penalty box. He is also proficient at generating a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. The 19-time Spain international is primarily an attacking midfielder but can even fill in as a winger if needed.
Barcelona can definitely benefit from signing someone of Olmo’s quality as he will enhance the quality of Xavi‘s first XI. We can expect the Spaniard to add more goals and creativity to Barca‘s attack and help them challenge for the La Liga title once again in the coming seasons.
There is no doubt that Olmo will increase competition for places within Xavi’s match-day squad at the Nou Camp. However, if Leipzig refuses to sell him this summer, the Catalan giants would have no choice but to turn their attention on some of their other targets when the transfer window reopens later this year.
