According to Marca, Real Madrid have beaten Barcelona in the pursuit of Enrique Herrero. It appears Los Blancos have already completed the capture of the Eintracht Frankfurt youngster, with the player confirming the move in an Instagram post. Barcelona were among the clubs keen on the services of Herrero, but the youngster opted to move to Santiago Bernabeu.
Enrique Herrero’s Struggles At Eintracht Frankfurt
Formerly of Villarreal, Herrero joined Eintracht Frankfurt last summer in order to further his progress at the highest level of football. A centre forward by trade, the youngster had made a name for himself in the youth leagues of Spain due to his technical abilities in the final third, coupled with his productivity.
As such, he was brought in as an alternative to first-choice forwards in Rafael Santos Borre and Sam Lammers. Unfortunately, the 17-year-old has had a difficult time adapting to the Bundesliga. He has failed to impress new coach Oliver Glasner, which has resulted in his non-existent game-time for the senior side.
In fact, Herrero is yet to make his debut for Eintracht Frankfurt and appears set for a move elsewhere in the summer. Having joined Real Madrid after January, the youngster is ineligible to play for Los Blancos during the remainder of the campaign but is expected to train with the Whites and get himself used to the club’s style of play.

A Big Miss For Barcelona?
Given Enrique’s apparent struggles in the Bundesliga, it is hard to imagine Barcelona ruing his move to Real Madrid in the summer. However, the youngster is undoubtedly a talented player and his skill in the final third could prove to be a useful asset going forward.
However, at the age of just 17, Herrero has a long way to go before he can even become a part of the senior side. Barcelona, on the other hand, already boast the services of a host of talented players in the attacking department including Nico, Ferran Jutgla, Ilias Akhomach and Abde Ezzalzouli, among many others.
The addition of Herrero, to that end, might have stacked up the offensive unit and hindered the progress of certain individuals, even though the 17-year-old was unlikely to join the first team in the immediate future.
At the end of the day, it is up to Real Madrid to nurture the talents of the former Villarreal prospect and with the youngster already training in the camp, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Lorqui native.
