The Sun has recently reported that Barcelona could face competition from Bayern Munich for Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen. It has been mentioned that the Catalan giants are eyeing a move to bring the Danish centre-back to the Nou Camp when he becomes a free agent at the end of this campaign.
Christensen’s Decent Form At West London This Season
The 25-year-old is enjoying a solid campaign at Stamford Bridge as he has produced several dominant displays at the centre of Chelsea’s backline. Christensen has played in 26 matches for the Blues this season, netting two goals and securing one assist in multiple competitions.
The Denmark international has been a consistent performer for the West London outfit on the defensive end of the field. Christensen is averaging 0.5 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 2.8 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back after making 87.8% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
What Will Christensen Bring To Barcelona?
Christensen has been a rock at the back for the Blues this season as he is usually quick to scan the danger and can make some solid interceptions inside his half. He doesn’t mind stepping in and getting his foot through the ball when needed and can even play his way out from the back. The Chelsea defensive ace can even make some important blocks to deny the opposition from scoring.
A defender of Christensen’s quality will no doubt be a great signing for Barca if they can win the race to secure his signature in the summer.
Standing at 1.88m, the Danish talent is a strong presence in the air. Hence, we can expect him to bring a lot of bite and steel to Xavi‘s defence.
Christensen is good enough to serve as an ideal successor to Gerard Pique, who is in the last legs of his playing career at the Nou Camp. All in all, Xavi should consider trying everything he can to lure the Denmark international to Barcelona when the transfer window reopens later this year.
