In a recent report, Jeunes Footeux stated that Barcelona are eager to snap up Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht this summer. It is understood that the Catalan giants are showing interest in recruiting the Spanish talent during the summer transfer window.
Gomez’s Excellent Form In Belgian Football
Gomez has been a breath of fresh air in the Belgian top-flight during this campaign as he has put in a run of productive performances on the left side of Anderlecht’s defence. The 21-year-old has featured in 41 matches for the Belgian outfit this season, finding the back of the net on six occasions and grabbing 14 assists across various competitions.
The Spanish talent has caught the eye by averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.8 key passes, 1.5 crosses and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Jupiler Pro League. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the left flank after completing 83% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Belgian football (stats via whoscored).

Is Gomez The Right Fit For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Gomez can play anywhere across the left flank and has established himself as a solid defender at the back. The Anderlecht whizkid can get stuck in with some crunching tackles to earn possession back for his team and doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot. He is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can drive to the byline to whip in some dangerous crosses into the opponent’s penalty area.
The Spaniard has got the vision to create some promising chances for his teammates in the final third. Plus, he can contribute by scoring his fair share of goals up top.
Thus, Barca would be wise to get a deal done for Gomez in the summer. He will add more quality to Xavi‘s first team and could serve as a perfect, long-term replacement for Jordi Alba at the Nou Camp.
