In a recent report, AS claimed that Barcelona are among clubs hoping to recruit Manchester City winger Pedro Porro who is currently playing on loan at Sporting CP. It is understood that the Catalan outfit are set to rival Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in pursuit of the Spanish talent.
Porro’s Impressive Campaign In Portuguese Football
Porro has been a joy to watch in the Portuguese top-flight this season as he has performed at a high level on the right side of Sporting’s defence. The 22-year-old has registered four goals and seven assists in 28 matches for the Portuguese outfit during this campaign in various competitions.
The Don Benito-born full-back has caught the eye by averaging 1.9 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.1 clearances, 1.4 shots, 1.8 key passes, 1.7 crosses and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Liga Portugal. However, he needs to be more accurate with his ball distribution as evidenced by his pass success rate of 72.3% in the Portuguese first division (stats via whoscored).
Is Porro A Good Option For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Porro is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t shy away from making a clearance when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Spaniard can even make some intelligent runs with the ball and is a tidy crosser as well from the right flank. However, Porro needs to improve his link-up play if he intends to become a future star at the highest level.
At 22, Porro has got a bright future ahead of him which makes him a decent, long-term option for Barca to consider in the summer. He has got the potential to become a favourite amongst the Barcelona supporters and would no doubt strengthen Xavi‘s midfield options for the future.
The Spanish prospect might even serve as a great, long-term successor to Sergio Busquets at the Nou Camp. Thus, the Catalan giants should try everything they can to win the race for Porro’s services during the summer transfer period.
