In a recent interview with Football Insider, ex-Premier League forward Kevin Campbell revealed that Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa could generate interest from other clubs in the summer. Campbell said,
“Konsa has done really well for Aston Villa.
“He’s been a revelation since they’ve got back into the Premier League. He has a long-term contract so I’m sure he’s very happy where he is.
“I’m sure a lot of teams would be interested in him if he was to be made available. But he’s under contract until 2026 so Villa don’t have to do nothing if they don’t want to. He is their player.
“The question is, does the manager want to change him? That is the only way I can see him leaving. I think he’s done really well but perhaps Steven Gerrard has his eye on someone else or a replacement. That would be the only reason for him to leave Aston Villa.”
Konsa’s Decent Season At Villa Park
Konsa has experienced another solid campaign at Villa Park as he has managed to produce some dominant displays at the centre of Aston Villa’s backline. The English centre-back has been involved in 24 matches for the Villans this season, netting two goals in the process across all fronts.
The London-born talent has performed well to average 1.0 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 2.7 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when interchanging possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 85.5% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Sanction Konsa’s Exit?
Konsa is a tough-tacking defender who usually clears the danger when required. He is a good passer of the ball and can use his strong 1.83m frame to win a few aerial duels for his team.
At 24, the English centre-half’s best years are ahead of him, so Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard would be wise to retain his services at Villa Park for the long run.
Konsa is currently under a long-term contract at the West Midlands club, so there is no immediate reason for the Villans to sanction his exit during the summer transfer window.
