In a recent report, L’Equipe stated that Arsenal frontman Alexandre Lacazette is set to be offered a short-term contract. It is believed that the Gunners are planning to reward the French striker for his recent run of good form by offering him a short-term contract extension.
Lacazette’s Up And Down Season At The Emirates Stadium
The Lyon-born talent has experienced a campaign of mixed emotions as he found life difficult towards the back end of last year. However, he has gone on to find some form for Arsenal following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who joined Barcelona last January.
Lacazette has scored six goals and grabbed eight assists in 29 matches for the North London outfit this season across various competitions. The French talent has led the line well as he is averaging 1.8 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play a little based on his pass completion rate of 75.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Arsenal Set To Offer Lacazette A New Contract: Good Call By Mikel Arteta?
Lacazette can use his pace to make some clever runs with the ball in the final third. He is proficient at creating a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on target and can be a lethal finisher in front of the opposition goal when he is playing with confidence on the field.
The French sensation has got a wealth of experience under his belt. Plus, he knows Arsenal and Mikel Arteta‘s playing style quite well by now. Hence, it makes sense for the Gunners to keep hold of Lacazette as he could still serve as a decent back up striker for them in the coming seasons. At 30, the former Olympique Lyonnais ace has got plenty of football left in him, so he could still play a key role for the North London giants in the future.
Arteta is probably making the right call with regards to offering the French goal-getter a new deal. However, the Arsenal head coach would be wise to bring in a new forward who would be able to keep Lacazette on his toes next season.
