Liverpool suffered a rare defeat against West Ham United at London Stadium and they had to seek revenge this evening to keep pace with Manchester City in the title hunt. The Hammers put on quite a show at Anfield, however, the Reds managed to defend Sadio Mane’s first-half goal and secure all three points from this fierce contest.
Below are the Liverpool players rated in their 1-0 win against West Ham United.
Alisson Becker: 7.5
Had to stay alert between the sticks as he pulled off a few saves en route to clinching the clean sheet. Was beaten once but the goalline clearance from Trent Alexander-Arnold saved his night.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 9
Set it up beautifully for Sadio Mane midway through the first half. Made his trademark overlapping runs to link up down the wide with Mohamed Salah. His massive goalline clearance refrained the Irons from staging a comeback.
Ibrahima Konate: 7
Grabbed a start in place of Joel Matip who missed the tie through illness. Had a few nervy moments against Michail Antonio, but the young Frenchman was spot on with his interceptions and clearances.
Virgil van Dijk: 7
The high-line did not work on many occasions, also lost an aerial duel with Antonio that set Jarrod Bowen free high up the pitch. Was solid otherwise with his physicality as well as long diagonal passes out from the back.
Andrew Robertson: 8
Relentless down the left-hand flank as his last-ditch tackle denied Bowen from finding the net in the second half. Kept on combining with Luis Diaz down the left and the smart one-twos often opened up space in West Ham defence.
Fabinho: 7.5
Started the game brightly with timely tackles and swift passing movements from the deep. Had to shift a bit deeper late in the game when the visitors switched to ‘old school’ football to punish the Reds.
Jordan Henderson: 8
The skipper led by example with another industrious and all-round display. Covered a lot of ground and never stopped pressing the opponents in the middle of the park.
Naby Keita: 7
Should have offered more with his box-to-box runs. Tried to carry the ball forward from the deep but failed to make any notable contribution in the attacking third. Made a massive block late in the match to deny Antonio from finding the potential equalizer. Was taken off in the closing minutes for James Milner.
Mohamed Salah: 6.5
A bad day in the office for the red-hot Egyptian. Failed to beat Lukasz Fabianski one-on-one in the early seconds, also wasted a few more as the game progressed. Was eventually taken off for Diogo Jota late in the game.
Luis Diaz: 7.5
Another impressive display from the Colombian with his twists and tricks from the left. Created an array of opportunities and came close to finding the net time and again. Received massive plaudits from the Anfield crowd while making way for Curtis Jones in the final seconds.
Sadio Mane: 8
Was struggling initially before finding the net with a smart finish. Had a much-improved second-half as the Senegalese is gradually settling down as a ‘False 9’.
