Sport Mediaset has recently provided an update on Chelsea and their pursuit of Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt who is flattered by the Blues’ interest in him. It is believed that the Turin giants are willing to sanction the Dutch centre-back’s exit which could open the door for the West London outfit to acquire his services in the summer.
De Ligt’s Good Run Of Form In Italian Football
De Ligt is having a decent campaign at the Allianz Stadium as he has put in a handful of solid displays at the heart of Juve’s backline. The 22-year-old has registered one goal in 24 matches for the Italian outfit this season on all fronts.
The ex-Ajax defender has done well to average 0.9 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the back after completing 90% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

Should Chelsea Launch A Move For De Ligt?
De Ligt is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his side inside his half. He is usually quick to react to the danger and can clear his lines when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Dutch sensation is also proficient at playing his way out from the back and also wins his fair share of duels in the air. Hence, we can expect him to add a lot of quality to Chelsea‘s backline if Thomas Tuchel can devise a way to bring him to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens later this month.
At 22, de Ligt has his best years ahead of him which makes him a perfect option for the West London club to pursue this summer as long as he can steer clear of injuries. He could go on to form a dominant defensive partnership with Thiago Silva at the English capital over the next few years. Therefore, Tuchel would be wise to launch a move to land him at the end of this campaign.
