The Times has recently reported that Tottenham Hotspur have offered Ryan Sessegnon a new contract. It is believed that Spurs are planning to offer the English talent an improved contract following his recent resurgence under the tutelage of Antonio Conte.
Sessegnon’s Recent Form In English Football This Season
The 21-year-old has played a bit-part role for the North London club this season but has done well to fill in as a squad player when required. Sessegnon has featured in 13 matches for Tottenham during this campaign, picking up one assist in the process across all fronts.
The ex-Fulham sensation has caught the eye at times as he is averaging 1.5 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.5 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 76.6% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Tottenham Hotspur Offer Sessegnon A New Contract: Good Move For Both Parties?
Sessegnon is a solid tackler of the ball and can be a hard man to beat out on the wide areas. He can use his quickness and agility to make some driving runs with the ball down the left flank and usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive.
The English left-back can drive to the byline and has got the ability to deliver a few good crosses into the opponent’s penalty box. He can even keep possession moving quite well from the left-wing and packs a lot of power with his strikes from long range.
Sessegnon has done well to find some form under Antonio Conte’s stewardship. Hence, it makes sense for Spurs to offer him a new contract so that they can keep hold of him for the long run. At 21, the English talent has still got plenty of time to turn his Tottenham career around for the better.
Hence, Sessegnon’s contract extension will be a good move for both the player and the North London club. Conte has got the experience to unlock the best out of the English full-back in the coming seasons.
