In a recent report, Le10Sport mentioned that Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez is on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain. It is understood that the French giants are planning to move in for the Algeria international whose contract with Man City is set to run out in the summer of 2023.
Mahrez’s Excellent Numbers In English Football This Season
Mahrez is having another outstanding campaign at the Etihad Stadium after putting in a series of influential displays as a key member of Pep Guardiola’s frontline. The Sarcelles-born talent has found the back of the net on 16 occasions and provided six assists in 28 matches for Man City this season across all fronts.
The 30-year-old has given a good account of himself in the attacking end of the pitch by averaging 2.0 shots, 1.7 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opposition half after completing 90.4% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Should Manchester City Sanction Mahrez’s Exit This Summer?
Mahrez is a technically gifted footballer who has transformed himself into a prolific presence in front of the opponent’s goal. He excels at creating space to get a few shots in on-target and can even orchestrate some meaningful openings for his teammates deep inside the opposition half.
At 30, the Algeria international remains an excellent dribbler with the ball but has only got a handful of years left in him to play at his best.
With his current deal at the Etihad Stadium set to expire in the summer of 2023, Man City would have to consider selling him in the summer or else risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
At the moment, Mahrez is still one of the first names in Guardiola‘s teamsheet because of his decent goal-scoring record. As long as he can keep banging in the goals over the next 12 months, the Mancunian giants should not think about sanctioning his exit as they might be better off tying him down to a new contract to extend his stay in England.
