Manchester City welcomed Brentford at the Etihad Stadium earlier tonight as they hoped to secure all three points at home. Man City began the game on the front foot and took the lead in the 40th minute courtesy of Riyad Mahrez’s penalty. Pep Guardiola’s men cruised to a 1-0 lead at the half-time interval.
Kevin De Bruyne made the points secure for Man City with a good finish in the 69th minute as the contest ended 2-0 in favour of the Premier League leaders.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player performed during the clash against the Bees.
GK: Ederson – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper made a couple of solid saves and secured an easy clean sheet in front of the Man City supporters.
RB: John Stones – 8/10
Stones won plenty of aerial duels and made a couple of decent runs down the right flank.
CB: Ruben Dias – 7/10
He controlled the game well from the back and did enough to keep the Brentford attackers at bay during the 90 minutes.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7/10
The Spaniard kept a good shape at the back and managed to earn a solid clean sheet tonight.
LB: Joao Cancelo – 8.5/10
Cancelo did his fair share of defending and was a constant threat going forward. He was always willing to have a strike at goal.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 8/10
The Belgian international created some decent chances for others around him and scored his team’s second goal which killed the game off.
CM: Rodri – 7/10
He offered some solid protection for his teammates at the back and was lively on the ball as well.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 7/10
Silva retained possession with ease in the Brentford half but didn’t do enough to register a goal.
RW: Riyad Mahrez – 7/10
He kept his calm to convert his penalty. However, Mahrez offered very little otherwise in the final third.
ST: Phil Foden – 7/10
Foden orchestrated a few inviting chances for his teammates but didn’t get too many sniffs at goal.
LW: Raheem Sterling – 7.5/10
He caused all sorts of problems for the Brentford defenders due to his creativity and dribbling and was unfortunate not to score tonight.
Substitutes:
LW: Jack Grealish – 6/10
Grealish hardly got a foothold in the game.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 6/10
The German midfielder offered very little after coming off the bench.
