Liverpool welcomed Leicester City at Anfield earlier tonight as they hoped to pick up all three points at home. The Reds made a dominant start to the game and took the lead in the 34th minute courtesy of Diogo Jota’s finish from close range. The Merseyside outfit controlled the game well and went into the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Jurgen Klopp’s men sat on their narrow advantage well and finally killed the game off in the 87th minute when Diogo Jota scored again after a superb through ball from Joel Matip. The contest ended with the Reds securing an impressive 2-0 win at home.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the match against the Foxes.
GK: Alisson Becker – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper had to make just one save during the game and earned an easy clean sheet in front of the Kop.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
The English right-back passed the ball well from the right flank but there was no assist for him tonight.
CB: Joel Matip – 8/10
The Cameroonian centre-back bossed the game inside his half and picked a great assist for setting up Jota’s late goal.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 7.5/10
Van Dijk had complete control over Patson Daka and did enough to see out the three points with the clean sheet intact.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 7.5/10
The Scottish full-back ran his socks off down the left wing and delivered some dangerous crosses into the Leicester penalty box.
CM: Thiago Alcantara – 7.5/10
He dominated the game in midfield and fed some silky passes to the front players.
CM: Fabinho – 8/10
The Brazilian midfield ace read the danger well and broke down most of Leicester’s attacks.
CM: Curtis Jones – 6.5/10
Jones looked confident on the ball as usual but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
RW: Diogo Jota – 8.5/10
The Portuguese striker was a fox inside the Leicester penalty box and showed a great finisher’s instincts to score two excellent goals tonight.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 7/10
The Brazilian forward linked up play well with others around him but was not ruthless in front of the opponent’s goal.
LW: Luis Diaz – 7.5/10
Diaz worked hard to get in behind the Leicester backline and caused all sorts of problems for the opposition using his pace and dribbling ability.
Substittutes:
RW: Mohamed Salah – 8/10
The Egpyt international produced a couple of moments of magic and was really unfortunate not to get his name on the scoresheet.
CM: Harvey Elliott – 7/10
Elliott interchanged passes quite well with Salah down the right flank.
LW: Takumi Minamino – N/A
He hardly had any time to influence the game.
