In a report published by Jeunes Footeux, it appears Jonathan David’s agent has confirmed that the player will be leaving LOSC Lille at the end of the season. Along with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Newcastle United, Liverpool are among the clubs interested in the services of the star attacker, who is valued at around €60 million.
Jonathan David’s Immense Success At LOSC Lille
Formerly of KAA Gent, Jonathan David joined LOSC Lille in the summer of 2020, for a fee of €27 million. It was a major gamble that didn’t look like paying off as the striker endured a slow start to his career in France.
However, since the second half of the last season, David has taken his game to a whole new level. His 13 goals last term notably helped Lille sensationally leapfrog PSG for the Ligue 1 title, while the 22-year-old has already netted 12 goals in the new season.
Although Lille haven’t been able to launch a title bid this time around, David has continued to mesmerise the onlookers with his speed, productivity and versatility in the final third. A centre forward by trade, the youngster has indeed operated in various roles at Lille and has become an ideal strike partner for Burak Yilmaz.
David’s performances have not only been restricted to just club football either as he has been in red hot form at the international stage. In just 27 appearances, the forward already has 20 goals to his name and his performances have played a key role in Canada’s bid to qualify for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Is He An Ideal Option For Liverpool?
Liverpool have strengthened their attacking unit quite well in recent years. The smart additions of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have given Jurgen Klopp reliable alternatives for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, both of who have their contracts expiring at the end of next season.
However, there is one final piece of the puzzle remaining, in regards to the future of Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian has endured a dip in stock in recent years, struggling with injuries and a lack of productivity in front of goal. And that is where Jonathan David could prove to be an ideal option for Liverpool.
The Canadian international has already showcased his ability as a supporting forward during his time at Lille and has the ability to become an asset for any club in Europe. At the age of just 22, the youngster also has a bright future ahead of him, making him a smart long-term investment for Liverpool.
As such, it might not be a bad option for the Reds to invest €60 million for the Canadian prodigy, whose addition to the club could help Liverpool further bridge the gap between them and Manchester City.
