Aston Villa will lock horns with Leeds United at Villa Park on Wednesday night, hoping to pick up a win on their home turf. The Whites will be coming into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 loss against Newcastle United, whereas the Villans recorded a 1-0 victory at Goodison Park on January 22.

Steven Gerrard will be without the services of Leon Bailey and Marvelous Nakamba as they are out with thigh and knee injuries, respectively.

On the positive side, Trezeguet and Bertrand Traore are set to return from the African Cup of Nations.

The English tactician will probably opt for the 4-3-3 formation with minimum changes from the last game.

Emiliano Martinez will continue to operate between the sticks for the upcoming home encounter. The ex-Arsenal shot-stopper will be hoping to secure a clean sheet on Wednesday.

Ezri Konsa will form the centre-half partnership with Tyrone Mings at the heart of Villans’ backline.

Lucas Digne is a guaranteed starter at the left-back position, whereas Matty Cash will fill in on the other flank as the right-back. The fullbacks will be expected to stay compact and keep their shape defensively.

Midfield

Douglas Luiz and John McGinn will fulfil the holding midfield positions, with the former occupying a more defensive role to shield the home side’s back-four.
