In a recent report, Defensa Central mentioned that Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro is on the radar of Real Madrid. It is understood that Los Blancos could face competition from Barcelona in pursuit of the Portuguese talent in the summer.
Guerreiro’s Impressive Form At Signal Iduna Park This Season
The 28-year-old has given a good account of himself in German football during this campaign as he has put in a few eye-catching displays on the left side of Dortmund’s defence. The France-born talent has banged in five goals and secured three assists in 20 matches for the German outfit this season on all fronts.
Guerreiro has proven himself to be a valuable contributor down the left flank by averaging 1.7 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball going forward, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 86.1% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Should Real Madrid Move In For Guerreiro This Summer?
Guerreiro can do a bit of everything down the left wing. He is a solid tackler and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team. The 53-time Portugal international can make some clever runs out on the wide areas and is a good crosser of the ball as well. He can even chip in by scoring the odd goal from time and time.
At 28, Guerreiro is currently playing at his prime and would add a lot of quality to Real Madrid‘s first XI if Carlo Ancelotti can devise a way to sign him at the end of this campaign.
The Dortmund star could serve as a great long-term successor to Marcelo who is entering the last legs of his playing career at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Plus, Guerreiro has got enough experience under his belt to help Los Blancos challenge for even more trophies in the coming seasons. Thus, it makes sense for the Madrid giants to move in for the talented full-back when the transfer window reopens later in the summer.
