Following a shocking 3-2 defeat at the hands of Southampton, Tottenham are looking to rekindle their winning momentum when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. It is a must-win game for the Lilywhites, who are now four points adrift of the Champions League places, whereas a defeat could see them drop to eighth in the league table.
Predicted Tottenham Lineup Vs Wolves
Defence
Antonio Conte is hoping to have Eric Dier back in contention after the defender missed the last few games. However, even though the Englishman is likely to recover from his thigh injury, he remains an unlikely starter owing to a lack of fitness.
With Japhet Tanganga also out injured, Conte could be forced to persist with Ben Davies in the left-sided centre-back role. The Welshman should be partnered by Davinson Sanchez and Cristian Romero, who has recently returned to full fitness.
The Argentine’s leadership could be vital as Spurs look to keep a clean sheet and protect Hugo Lloris in goal. The Frenchman was one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise dire performance against Southampton last time out.
Midfield
Oliver Skipp remains likely to miss out once again as the youngster continues to struggle with his groin injury. With the Englishman ruled out, Conte has to choose between Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks and Rodrigo Bentancur in the double-pivot.
Hojbjerg and Winks started in the last game against Southampton, but given Bentancur’s impactful cameo as a substitute, the new signing from Juventus could be given the nod ahead of Winks. It will be interesting to see what the Uruguayan international offers to the table, alongside the ever so combative figure of Hojbjerg.
Elsewhere in the second line of press, Conte is set to retain both Emerson Royal and Sergio Reguilon in the wing-back department. However, both the players must improve their recent performances, if they are to remain a part of Conte’s long-term plans.
Attack
Moving forward, Tottenham aren’t likely to make any changes. Lucas Moura was one of the star performers against Southampton, which should be enough to get him the nod ahead of Steven Bergwijn and new signing Dejan Kulusevski.
Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane, meanwhile, are the guaranteed starters in the Tottenham frontline. The free-flowing front three Tottenham have at their disposal is going to play a critical role in breaching the lines of the Wolves backline this weekend.
