In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona have identified Ajax full-back Noussair Mazraoui as a target for the summer transfer window. It has been revealed that the Catalan giants are eyeing a move for the Morocco international in the summer.
Mazraoui’s Encouraging Season In Dutch Football
Mazraoui is enjoying a fruitful campaign at Amsterdam after producing a run of impressive performances as a key member of Ajax’s first XI. The Leiderdorp-born talent has participated in 26 matches for the Dutch club this season across all fronts.
The 24-year-old has been a consistent performer on the right side of Ajax’s defence based on his average of 2.1 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 1.6 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from the wide areas as he has made 85.8% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Mazraoui Add To Barcelona Boss Xavi’s Side?
Mazraoui has decent pace under his belt and can make some promising runs with the ball in the opposition half. He can even make a few important recovering runs at the back and is a solid tackler of the ball. The 12-time Morocco international can scan the danger quickly to earn possession back inside his half and can even contribute by scoring the odd goal from time to time.
At 24, Mazraoui’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a decent option for Barca to pursue at the end of this campaign. We can expect the Moroccan sensation to add a lot of quality to Xavi‘s first XI and could serve as an upgrade over Serginio Dest who has struggled to find consistency with his performances at the Nou Camp this season.
Mazraoui ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Xavi looks for in his right-backs. He could even help the Catalan outfit get back to competing for major trophies over the next few years. Thus, it is only logical for the Spanish side to make a move to land the Ajax full-back during the summer transfer period.
