In a recent interview with Football Insider, ex-Leeds United forward Noel Whelan has urged Aston Villa to offer Jacob Ramsey a new contract. Whelan said,
“Despite having a few years left on his contract, I think they’ll look to renew.
“The club and Steven Gerrard realise what a talent they have on their hands and will want to reward the young man (Jacob Ramsey) with a pay rise.
“You want to keep him happy, you want to keep him feeling wanted and let’s be right, he deserves it. This is how Aston Villa will do their business. They’ll realise just what an important player he is to the side.”
Ramsey’s Impressive Form In English Football This Season
Ramsey has produced a series of eye-catching displays at Villa Park during this campaign. The 20-year-old has featured in 22 matches for the Villans this season, scoring five goals and securing one assist in all competitions.
The Birmingham-born talent is a product of Aston Villa’s youth academy and has caught the eye of late by averaging 1.7 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.0 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after making 84.7% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Comply With Whelan’s Advice On Offering Ramsey A New Contract?
Ramsey can do a bit of everything at the centre of the park. He is a good tackler of the ball and can offer decent protection for his teammates at the back.
More importantly, the English sensation has transformed himself into a decent box-to-box midfielder and has chipped in by netting a few important goals for his team. He can even make some intelligent runs with the ball and is a tidy passer from midfield.
At the moment, Ramsey is enjoying his football at Villa Park. Thus, it makes sense for the Villans to comply with Noel Whelan’s advice about offering him a new deal.
Steven Gerrard has managed to get the best out of Ramsey recently. Hence, the Aston Villa supporters have every reason to be optimistic about seeing him grow into a future star in the coming seasons.
