In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Arsenal are set to rival Manchester City for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez. It has been claimed that the Gunners are showing interest in recruiting the Argentine marksman who could leave the Milan giants in the summer.
Martinez’s Decent Form In Italian Football This Season
The 24-year-old is having another impressive campaign at San Siro after producing a run of goal-scoring performances as the focal point of Inter’s attack. Martinez has participated in 31 matches for the Italian outfit this season, netting 12 goals and providing two assists on all fronts.
The 37-time Argentina international has given a good account of himself by averaging 2.8 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Serie A. However, he has been a bit untidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s goal based on his pass success rate of 73.8% in league football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Martinez Bring To Arsenal?
Martinez excels at generating a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He remains a decent finisher in the final third and can create some meaningful openings for his teammates up top.
The Argentina international is also proficient at making some clever runs with the ball when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play in the attacking end of the field if he wants to taste more success at the highest level.
At 24, Martinez’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a great choice for the Gunners to consider at the end of the campaign. We can expect the Argentine sensation to bring a lot of goals to Mikel Arteta‘s attack at the Emirates Stadium. He could even serve as an ideal replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubemayng, who left Arsenal during the January transfer window.
Martinez has got what it takes to become a future star at the North London club. Hence, Arteta would be wise to engineer a move to acquire the services of the South American talent when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
