According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to rival West Bromwich Albion in the pursuit of Ollie Tanner. The Lewes winger has become a sought-after prospect in the market, with multiple English clubs interested in his services. Spurs have even submitted an offer to sign Tanner, who has been training with the club lately.
Who Is Ollie Tanner?
A left-winger by trade, Ollie Tanner plays for Lewes, a non-league club based in East Sussex. The team competes in the Isthmian League Premier Division, which is considered to be the seventh division in the English footballing pyramid.
Despite the remoteness of his footballing surroundings, the youngster has made a name for himself with his performances in non-league football. He is considered as one of the best players in his division and was formerly a member of the Arsenal youth academy before he moved to Bromley in 2017.
Tanner’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with multiple clubs interested in his services. Lewes FC had already rejected a proposal from Brighton & Hove Albion for the attacker, whereas Tottenham’s head of coaching in the academy, Chris Powell, was at The Dripping Pan, Tanner’s homeground, to watch him in action against Brightlingsea Regent F.C this past weekend.
A Good Option For Tottenham?
It is refreshing to see Tottenham Hotspur making the effort to upgrade its ranks in the youth department. In recent years, they have fallen behind in the ranks when it comes to producing young talents and integrating them into the senior side. It has made them far more reliant on the market.
The addition of someone like Ollie Tanner is an exciting prospect for the club, given how much the youngster is rated in the lower divisions. Although the winger hasn’t had any proper experience in football, he has shown the talent required to become a top player and has also been training with the club reently.
Tanner, therefore, is a prudent investment as the club look to enhance their quality in the youth division. The 19-year-old might not be an instant success, but having previously been offloaded by Arsenal youth, he has a point to prove and will be determined to make an impression in North London.
