In a recent tweet, TuttoMercatoWeb journalist Marco Conterio revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have failed with their attempt to land AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie on transfer deadline day. It is believed that the Italian club are unwilling to let their prized asset leave which has been a big stumbling block for Spurs to overcome this January.
Kessie’s Impressive Run Of Form At San Siro This Season
Kessie is having another solid campaign with the Milan giants after performing at a high level for them over the past few months. The Ivory Coast midfield ace has participated in 21 matches for AC Milan this season, scoring five goals and securing one assist across various competitions.
The 25-year-old has been a valuable contributor at the heart of Stefano Pioli’s midfield as he is averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 1.1 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass success rate of 90.2% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Should Be Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte’s Play With Regards To Recruiting Kessie?
Kessie is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to make a few crucial interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot but is also proficient at playing his way out from midfield.
The Ivory Coast international has got the eye to play a killer pass in the opponent’s half and can cover a lot of ground by working his socks off at both ends of the field.
Hence, missing out on him will be a bitter pill to swallow for Spurs. However, the North London outfit should not give up their pursuit of Kessie just yet as he has got less than six months remaining in his AC Milan contract.
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte could potentially land him on a free transfer at the end of this campaign. The Italian tactician would be wise to wait for now and try his luck to sign Kessie once again in the summer.
