Newcastle United were held to a 1-1 draw at St. Jame’s Park against Watford in their hopes to move out of the relegation zone. Allan Saint-Maximin scored a sensational solo goal after driving into the box to give Newcastle the lead in the 49th minute. But Newcastle’s defensive issues continue as they gave away another equalizer in the last 10 minutes of the game to miss out on 3 points and stay in the relegation zone.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle United player performed during the match against Watford.
GK: Martin Dubravka – 7/10
Dubravka made 4 saves in the game including a brilliant one but was beaten by a sensational header right at the end of the game.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 7/10
The new signing, in his first Premier League game for the club, looked calm and composed on the ball. He also made some great crosses into the box but the Newcastle attackers failed to convert them.
CB: Fabian Schar – 6.5/10
Schar kept the Watford attackers quiet for the most part of the game and was always quick to react to the loose ball.
CB: Jamaal Lascelles – 6.5/10
The English centre-back won the most duels in the game but failed to clear a cross from which Joao Pedro scored and equalized for Watford.
LB: Paul Dummet – 7/10
Dummet was solid defensively as he didn’t give any space to the in-form Watford forward Emmanuel Dennis to work with.
RW: Ryan Fraser – 6/10
He tried to use his pace to get in behind the Watford defence but was lacklustre in the final third as he lacked accuracy. Fraser got replaced in the 74th minute.
CM: Sean Longstaff – 6.5/10
Longstaff did his best to protect his backline and picked up an assist for setting up Saint-Maximin’s goal.
CM: Jonjo Shelvey – 7/10
Shelvey tried to create opportunities from the middle of the park and it was from his pass that created the goal for Newcastle. He also took some shots from outside the box but failed to score a goal.
CM: Joelinton – 7.5/10
The Brazilian won a lot of 2nd balls in the centre of the pitch and made some key recoveries to put his team on the front foot.
LW: Allan Saint-Maximin – 8/10
Saint-Maximin scored a brilliant goal to give Newcastle the lead after driving into the box and producing a powerful finish. When the Frenchman had the ball he always looked dangerous and tried to create chances.
ST: Chris Wood – 6/10
Chris Wood hardly got a sniff at the goal and failed to get on the ball on most occasions.
Substitutes:
LW: Jacob Murphy – 6/10
Murphy couldn’t affect the game much after coming on.
RW: Miguel Almiron – NA
Almiron hardly had any time to make an impact.
