Chelsea locked horns with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge earlier tonight, hoping to pick up all three points on their home turf. Sadio Mane opened the scoreline in the 9th minute as he capitalised on Trevoh Chalobah’s mistake to make it 1-0 for the visitors. Almost fifteen minutes later, Mohamed Salah extended Liverpool’s lead to 2-0 with a delicate finish from close range. However, to level things out, Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic scored back to back goals minutes before the halftime whistle. Both sides played some breathtaking football in the second forty-five minutes but had to settle for a point each as the match ended 2-2.
Let’s look at how each Chelsea player fared during the clash against the Reds.
Chelsea Players Rated In Draw Vs Liverpool
Edouard Mendy 7
The Senegalese shot-stopper made a couple of decent saves in the second half, but he could have done better to prevent Mohamed Salah’s goal down his near post.
Antonio Rudiger 6.5
The German centre-back made some solid tackles and challenges to stop the Liverpool frontmen from scoring the winner.
Thiago Silva 6.5
Thiago Silva sprayed some decent long balls upfield to help the frontmen. Defensively, he had a decent 90 minutes.
Trevoh Chalobah 6
A defensive error from the 22-year-old Cobham graduate allowed Sadio Mane to score the opener tonight. Barring that incident, he made some excellent decisions throughout the match.
Cesar Azpiliceuta 6.5
The skipper hardly put a foot wrong in the defensive end of the pitch; however, he couldn’t provide sufficient width to stretch Chelsea’s attack down the right flank.
Marcos Alonso 7
A complete contrast to Azpiliceuta, Alonso had the highest position of any Chelsea player down the left wing, but he struggled to keep track of Mohamed Salah’s incisive runs.
Mateo Kovacic 8.5
The Croatian midfielder beat the press effectively and exhibited some outstanding hold-up play in the hour of need. Besides, he scored a screamer that paved the way for Chelsea’s heroic comeback into the game.
N’Golo Kante 8
The Frenchman displayed an insane work rate at the centre of the park. His overall ball distribution was decent as well.
Mason Mount 6.5
The Englishman wasn’t highly involved in the final third tonight, but his link-up play was impressive, to say the least.
Christian Pulisic 7
In the early stages of the game, the American winger missed a golden 1v1 opportunity against Caoimhin Kelleher but later compensated for it with a sublime finish to bag the equaliser.
Kai Havertz 6
The German international didn’t look comfortable at all playing up top. Most of the time, he struggled to get a touch of the ball.
SUBSTITUTES
Jorginho 6
He added extra energy to Chelsea’s midfield.
Callum Hudson-Odoi 6
He looked full of energy after coming on.
