Manchester United welcomed Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford earlier this evening as they hoped to pick up a positive result at home. The Red Devils were solid in the first half but could only manage to get into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
Both sides fought tooth and nail in the second 45 minutes but Ralf Rangnick’s men failed to find the cutting edge in the final third. Joao Moutinho finally broke the deadlock for Wolves in the 82nd minute when he found the back of the net with a good strike. The Mancunian giants ended up losing the contest by a narrow 1-0 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the clash against Wolves.
GK: David de Gea – 7/10
The Spanish keeper made a few solid saves at the back but couldn’t do much about Moutinho’s match-winning strike.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5/10
The English right-back won the ball back a few times and had a couple of lively moments in the Wolves half.
CB: Phil Jones – 7/10
Jones made a couple of crucial interceptions and cleared the danger when needed. He also pulled off some great blocks to keep the Wolves attackers frustrated for most of the game.
CB: Raphael Varane – 6.5/10
He made a few last-ditch clearances at the back and won the ball back twice for his side.
LB: Luke Shaw – 6/10
Shaw made one good chance during his time on the field but offered very little otherwise in the opposition half.
CM: Scott McTominay – 5.5/10
He was too slow when trying to close Joao Moutinho down in the lead-up to Wolves’ match-winner.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 7/10
The Serbian talent had to do a lot of defending and managed to offer decent protection for his teammates at the back. He also made a couple of decent runs from midfield.
RAM: Mason Greenwood – 7/10
Greenwood made a few great runs with the ball and created one good opportunity in the final third. He could only last 59 minutes before he was taken off by Rangnick.
LAM: Jadon Sancho – 6/10
Sancho struggled to get into the flow of the game and produced a lackluster display in the attacking end of the field.
ST: Edinson Cavani – 6/10
The Uruguay international made a couple of clever runs with the ball but hardly got a sniff at goal
ST: Cristiano Ronaldo – 6/10
Ronaldo was always willing to have a strike at goal but found chances come at a premium. He also had a goal disallowed by the linesman.
Substitutes:
RAM: Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
He hit the crossbar and saw his late goal-bound freekick get saved by Jose Sa.
LAM: Marcus Rashford – 6/10
The English speedster didn’t get any real chance to score.
LW: Anthony Elanga – N/A
He got some valuable playing time under his belt.
