In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Pete O’Rourke urged Leeds United to reignite their interest in Cagliari Calcio talent Nahitan Nandez. O’Rourke said,
“Nandez at Cagliari has been a long-term target for Leeds. They tried to sign him in the summer so I’m sure they’ll be looking to revisit that one as well.”
Nandez’s Impressive Campaign In Italian Football
Nandez is having a strong campaign at the Sardegna Arena as he has been responsible for putting in a few impressive displays for Cagliari recently. The Uruguayan sensation has been involved in 16 matches for the Italian club this season, securing two assists in the process in multiple competitions.
The ex-Penarol talent has proven himself to be a valuable contributor as he is averaging 2.0 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 0.9 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play in the opposition half after he completed only 73.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Will Nandez Add To Leeds United Boss Marcelo Bielsa’s Side?
Nandez can do a bit of everything at the centre of the park. He has often been deployed as a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as a central midfielder if needed. The Uruguay international can get stuck in with some solid tackles to earn the ball back for his team. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can even set up a few clear-cut chances in the attacking end of the field.
The Cagliari star is proficient at completing some exciting dribbles with the ball which makes him such a well-rounded footballer. Therefore, Nandez will be a brilliant option for the Whites to revisit during this January transfer window.
The South American sensation will add plenty of energy and dynamism to Marcelo Bielsa‘s midfield and is good enough to secure regular first-team starts in Premier League football. Thus, the West Yorkshire giants should think about moving in for Nandez before the end of this transfer window as he could help them steer clear of the relegation zone in the second half of this campaign.
