In a recent print edition, L’Arena claimed that Leeds United are eyeing a move for Cagliari Calcio forward Giovanni Simeone who is currently playing on loan at Hellas Verona. It has been revealed that the Argentine striker is on the radar of Marcelo Bielsa’s side as they look to strengthen their squad for the new campaign.
Simeone’s Decent Numbers In Italian Football This Season
The 26-year-old has been in great form during his loan spell at Hellas Verona as he has put in a string of productive displays for them in the final third. The Madrid-born talent has banged in 12 goals and grabbed three assists in 20 matches for the Italian outfit this season across all competitions.
The ex-River Plate talent has caught the eye by averaging 1.9 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he has been a bit sloppy when distributing the ball in the attacking end of the field after completing 69.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Simeone Bring To Leeds United?
Simeone is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He can even set up some inviting chances for others around him. The Argentine marksman has got a great leap in him and can hold possession up quite well in the final third. However, he needs to work on improving his overall link-up play if he wants to be a success story in Premier League football.
Leeds United are currently in dire need of a new forward due to Patrick Bamford’s recent concerns with injury. Simeone is good enough to secure a regular starting spot at Elland Road and will bring a lot of goals to Marcelo Bielsa’s frontline.
At 26, the Argentine talent is enjoying the prime years of his playing career, so the Whites can expect him to make an instant impact if they manage to lure him to England this month or at the end of this season. Hence, the Yorkshire giants should try everything they can to acquire the services of Simeone this year.
