In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Arsenal defender William Saliba, who is currently playing on loan at Olympique Marseille, is on Real Madrid’s radar. It has been stated that Los Blancos have identified the French centre-back as one of their targets for the summer transfer window.
Saliba’s Impressive Loan Spell At The Orange Vélodrome
The Bondy-born talent is having a solid loan spell at Marseille after performing at a high level at the centre of Jorge Sampaoli’s defence. Saliba has played in 27 matches for the French club this season across all competitions.
The former Saint-Etienne youth player has been a rock at the back as he is averaging 1.7 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates based on his pass success rate of 93.7% in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Real Madrid Launch A Move For Saliba In The Summer?
Saliba has taken great strides towards improving himself during his loan spell at Marseille. He has been a dominant presence for them at the back as he can use his strong 1.92m frame to overpower the opposition attackers in the air.
The French talent can time his tackles well to earn possession back on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears the danger when needed and is also proficient at playing his way out from the back when needed.
Los Blancos will do well to get Saliba on board at the end of this campaign. He ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Carlo Ancelotti expects from his central defenders.
The French sensation will undoubtedly add more bite and steel to Real Madrid‘s defence and could help them keep their stranglehold in Spanish football as well as challenge for the UEFA Champions League trophy once again in the coming seasons. All in all, the Spanish giants would be wise to launch a move to acquire the services of Saliba during the summer transfer window.
