In a recent report, Soccernews revealed that Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is on the radar of Manchester City. It is understood that the Netherlands international is one of the names in Man City boss Pep Guardiola’s wishlist.
Gravenberch’s Impressive Numbers In Dutch Football This Season
Gravenberch has produced a run of impressive displays at the heart of Ajax’s midfield during this campaign. The 19-year-old has registered one goal and four assists in 28 matches for the Dutch club this season on all fronts.
The ten-time Netherlands international has done well to influence the game at both ends of the field as he is averaging 1.7 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 2.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from midfield, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 85.7% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Should Manchester City Move In For Gravenberch?
Gravenberch loves a tackle and can make a few important interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He usually clears the danger when needed and can offer decent protection for his teammates at the back.
The Dutch sensation can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. Furthermore, he can even create a few meaningful chances for his teammates in the final third. Gravenberch has also got the engine to run up and down the field. He can even complete some clever dribbles in the opponent’s half.
A complete midfielder of Gravenberch’s skillset will definitely be a good signing for Man City if they can devise a way to get him on board in the future. He will be an ideal successor to Fernandinho and could go on to form a dominant midfield partnership with Rodri at the Etihad Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 19, Gravenberch has got a very promising future ahead of him and could be a star in the making at the highest level. Thus, it makes sense for Pep Guardiola to move in for the Dutch whizkid in the summer when he will just have a year left in his Ajax contract.
