Everton suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat vs Aston Villa at Goodison Park in this weekend’s Premier League clash. Emiliano Buendia scored the only goal in the game late on in the 1st half to hand the Toffees a painful defeat. Everton now remain winless in their last 5 league games and are now 16th in the league table with 19 points from 20 games.
Below are the Everton players rated in their defeat against Aston Villa.
Jordan Pickford: 6
The English international didn’t have much to do between the sticks but had no chance with the crisp header from Buendia which went in.
Jonjoe Kenny: 6.5
Kenny had a lot of defending to do throughout the 90 minutes and also managed to put some dangerous crosses into the box but couldn’t find the target.
Yerry Mina: 7
Yerry Mina came back into the starting lineup and defended quite well. He also came close a couple of times from set-pieces but failed to hit the target. He closed down spaces well and maintained a good defensive structure.
Mason Holgate: 6.5
Holgate’s last-ditch defending was brilliant but his positioning and distributing were poor.
Ben Godfrey: 6
Godfrey maintained a good defensive shape but failed to create anything from the left-hand side going up the pitch.
Andre Gomes: 5.5
Gomes struggled to get a hold of the midfield battle in the centre of the pitch as he lost a lot of duels. He was then substituted in the 51st minute.
Abdoulaye Doucoure: 7.5
Doucoure won the most duels in the match and was a dominant figure in the middle of the park. His driving runs into the box were dangerous but couldn’t find the right pass at the right moment to help the Toffees equalize.
Demarai Gray: 6.5
Demarai Gray looked dangerous in that left-wing going past defenders but was hardly given any space to come inside and score. His accuracy in the final third was poor.
Richarlison: 5.5
Richarlison was wasteful with the chances he got to level the game.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin: 6
Calvert-Lewin was closed down very well and therefore hardly had a sniff at goal.
Everton Substitutes VS Aston Villa
Allan: 6.5
Came in place of Andre Gomes in the 2nd half and controlled the tempo of the game.
Anthony Gordon: 7
Gordon came on and looked lively on the pitch. He also created a couple of chances but went into vain.
Tyler Onyango: 6
Hardly had an impact on the game.
