Chelsea clashed heads with Brighton and Hove Albion at the American Express Community Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure maximum points on the road. The Blues made a decent start to the game and took the lead in the 28th minute courtesy of Hakim Ziyech’s great finish. The West London outfit sat on their lead well and went into the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
The home side were more adventurous in the second half and managed to net the equaliser in the 60th minute via Adam Webster’s bullet header. Both sides fought tooth and nail in search of the winner but the contest finished 1-1 with Chelsea only managing to come away with a point from the Amex.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player performed during the match against the Seagulls.
GK: Kepa Arrizabalaga – 6/10
The Spanish keeper made one save during the game and was tidy with his passing. However, he will be disappointed after conceding a goal at the hour mark.
RB: Cesar Azpilicueta – 7/10
He was strong in the air and gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field. Azpilicueta also had a few lively moments in the opponent’s half.
CB: Thiago Silva – 7/10
Silva made plenty of important clearances at the back and even blocked a couple of shots. However, he won’t be pleased for not keeping a clean sheet.
CB: Antonio Rudiger – 6.5/10
The German talent was solid at the back and made one key chance going forward.
LB: Marcos Alonso – 6.5/10
Alonso did well to earn the ball back a couple of times for his team. However, he offered very little in the final third.
CM: N’Golo Kante – 7/10
The French midfield ace set up Ziyech’s goal with a great pass. He also made some crunching tackles to disrupt the opposition’s flow at the centre of the park.
CM: Jorginho – 6.5/10
He anchored the midfield with conviction but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
RW: Hakim Ziyech – 8/10
Ziyech made some decent runs with the ball and scored a good goal in the first half. He also made a few important interceptions at the back.
CAM: Mason Mount – 6/10
He struggled to get into the flow of the game and could only engineer one good chance during the 90 minutes.
LW: Callum Hudson-Odoi – 6.5/10
He made a couple of decent opportunities for his teammates but never looked like he would score.
ST: Romelu Lukaku – 6.5/10
Lukaku caused a few problems for the Brighton defenders but didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
Substitutes:
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 6/10
He made one good chance in the final third.
ST: Kai Havertz – 6/10
Havertz didn’t get a sniff at goal.
RW: Timo Werner – 6/10
He made some good runs but failed to threaten the Brighton goal.
