In a recent report, Foot Mercato stated that Chelsea are among several clubs monitoring Yannick Carrasco’s situation at Atletico Madrid. It is understood that the Blues are keeping an eye on the Belgian international ahead of a potential move in the summer.
Carrasco’s Up And Down Season In Spanish Football So Far
Carrasco has struggled to be productive with some of his performances on the left side of Diego Simeone’s attack during this campaign. The 28-year-old has found the back of the net twice and secured six assists in 29 matches for the Spanish side this season in all competitions.
However, the Belgian sensation has performed well to average 1.4 shots, 1.7 key passes, 1.2 crosses and 2.8 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 81.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
Should Chelsea Launch A Move For Carrasco?
Carrasco is proficient at creating space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He usually tests the opposition keeper with his shot attempts and can even set up some inviting chances for his teammates in the attacking end of the field.
The Belgian international is a decent crosser of the ball and can make a few impressive runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as a right-winger if needed.
At 28, Carrasco is currently playing at his peak and has still got plenty of football left in him. Thus, he could prove to be a shrewd signing for the Blues if Thomas Tuchel decides to move in for him at the end of this campaign.
Carrasco has got a wealth of experience of playing at the highest level and would enhance the quality of Chelsea‘s match-day squad. The Belgian talent will add more creativity and dynamism to Tuchel‘s attack and could go on to become a future star at Stamford Bridge. Therefore, the West London giants would be wise to engineer a move to bring Carrasco to England during the summer transfer window.
