According to a recent report by Tutto Mercato Web, Aston Villa are interested in a potential move for Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur before the end of the January transfer window. Aston Villa are reportedly ready to offer around £21million for the Uruguayan midfielder. The long term injury to Marvelous Nakamba has urged Steven Gerrard to look for a midfielder in the transfer market and it is believed that the Uruguayan is a top target for Villa. The Italian giants are waiting for an offer from Aston Villa and that the deal can be completed by the end of the transfer window.
Rodrigo Bentancur Out Of Favour At Juventus
The 24-year-old Uruguayan midfielder joined Juventus in 2016 and has been a key member of the squad since then. He has been influential in a couple of league wins for the Turin based club and has shown his quality in the Italian league. The midfielder’s form has dipped in the last couple of seasons and for that reason, he has been out of favour under Massimiliano Allegri. The Uruguayan has only started 13 games in the Serie A this season providing only a couple of assists in those appearances.
A clause in the deal that took Bentancur to Juventus from his boyhood club Boca Juniors in 2017 means that the Argentine club are due 35 per cent of the fee Villa will pay for his signature. Aston Villa have offered around £21million and it is believed that Juventus have already rejected the same, so we can expect that Villa would be tempted to go back in with a bigger offer.

The knee injury suffered by Marvelous Nakambe is expected to keep him out for the remaining part of the season meaning that Steven Gerrard will fall short of defensive midfielders with a lot of games coming up. The signing of a defensive midfielder will also allow Gerrard to play Douglas Luiz a bit more up the pitch in a central midfield position. The defensive midfield position is an important one as shown by Nakamba in Gerrard’s system before getting injured in December.
Rodrigo Bentancur plays in the middle of the park and is very good at keeping hold of the ball. He is a press resistant midfielder who can also control the tempo of the game from the centre of the pitch. The Uruguayan also has an exceptional passing range which helps him create goals from the midfield. There is no doubt that the 24 year-old can be a key addition to the Villa squad and can make a huge impact in the Premier League if Villa decide to make an offer for him.
