In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Arsenal remain keen on recruiting Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo. It is believed that the Gunners have reached out to Juve over a potential move for the Brazilian talent during this January transfer window.
Arthur’s Unimpressive Season In Italian Football
Arthur has only managed to play a sporadic role for the Turin giants during this campaign and has struggled to prove his worth for them in recent months. The ex-Barcelona sensation has been involved in 12 matches for his current employers but is still waiting to open his goal-scoring account for this season.
The 25-year-old has seen half of his appearances come off the bench which could be why he is only averaging 1.0 tackles, 0.4 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, Arthur has been quite accurate with his ball distribution after he completed 88.8% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Is Arthur Melo The Right Choice For Arsenal?
Arthur can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life difficult for the opposition in midfield. He can even create some decent plays for others around him when he is playing regularly on the field. The Brazilian midfield ace can even make a few decent runs with the ball in the opposition half. He remains an excellent passer of the ball which makes him a decent option for Arsenal to consider this month.
At 25, Arthur’s best years are ahead of him, so he could make an immediate impact at the Emirates Stadium if Mikel Arteta can get him on board during this January transfer window.
Arthur will add more bite and steel to the Gunners’ midfield and could go on to form a dominant partnership with Thomas Partey at the English capital in the coming seasons. Plus, he will serve as an upgrade over Granit Xhaka, who has continued to under-deliver for the North London club this season.
