In a recent print edition, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Arsenal have reignited their interest in Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas. It is understood that the Spanish centre-forward has a €70m release clause which the Gunners are willing to match during this January transfer window.
De Tomas’ Impressive Form In Spanish Football This Season
The Madrid-born talent is having a decent season at the RCDE Stadium after producing a series of fruitful performances at the top of Espanyol’s attack. De Tomas has banged in 12 goals and grabbed two assists in 23 matches for the Spanish side this season in all competitions.
The 27-year-old has caught the eye by averaging 3.6 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been excellent when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 83.6% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Will De Tomas Be A Decent Signing For Arsenal?
De Tomas is a moderately-paced forward who can get himself into some promising areas in the attacking end of the field. He excels at generating a yard of space for himself to get a shot in on-target. The Spanish marksman can even set up a few inviting chances for his teammates up top and has got a good leap in him that allows him to win some aerial duels for his team. He is usually quite clever with his movements in and around the opposition penalty box and packs a lot of power with his shot attempts.
We can expect de Tomas to add a lot of goals and some physicality to Arsenal‘s attack if Mikel Arteta can find a way to get him on board before the end of this transfer window.
At 27, the Spaniard is currently playing at his prime, so the Gunners can hope that he would be able to make an immediate impact in the Premier League if they manage to acquire his services this January. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in England. Still, de Tomas will be a good signing for the North London outfit as long as they can find the funds to get a deal done for him.
