In a recent report, The Times claimed that Arsenal have been offered an opportunity to land Atletico Madrid forward Alvara Morata who is currently playing on loan at Juventus. It is understood that the Gunners could face competition in the form of Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Spanish striker during this January transfer period.
Morata’s Good Loan Spell In Italian Football
Morata has experienced a decent loan spell at Juventus this season and deserves some credit for catching the eye at times with his performances over the past few months. However, the recent arrival of Dusan Vlahovic at the Allianz Stadium will surely limit his first-team chances if remains in Italy beyond the end of this month.
The Spain international has registered eight goals and five assists in 29 matches for the Turin giants during this campaign in various competitions. The 29-year-old has performed well to average 1.7 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he needs to take care of the ball a bit better when distributing it in the final third after completing 75.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Arsenal Snap Morata Up This Month?
Morata excels at creating a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He can create some meaningful openings for his teammates in the final third and is a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta needs to recruit a new centre-forward after freezing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of his match-day squad. Hence, Morata could be a good, short-term signing for the Gunners to consider before the transfer deadline next week.
We can expect the Spaniard to inject some much-needed firepower into Arsenal‘s attack. He could even go on to form an exciting attacking partnership with Alexandre Lacazette at the English capital in the second half of this campaign. More importantly, Morata is good enough to help the North London outfit secure UEFA Champions League football for next season. All in all, Arteta would be wise to snap the Spanish marksman up this January.
