West Ham United welcomed Chelsea at the London Stadium earlier today as they hoped to grind out a result in front of their home fans in the London derby. The Hammers made a sloppy start to the contest and conceded the opening goal from a corner when Thiago Silva found the back of the net with a good header in the 28th minute. However, Manuel Lanzini scored the all-important leveler for the East London outfit via the penalty spot in the 40th minute before Mason Mount gave Chelsea the lead again with an outstanding volley. The Hammers went into the half-time interval, trailing by a 2-1 scoreline.
Jarrod Bowen equalised for West Ham just 11 minutes into the second half as he got his name on the scoresheet with a great finish. The home side completed the turnaround in the 87th minute with an extraordinary strike as the contest finished 3-2 in favour of David Moyes’ men.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham United player performed during the clash against the Blues.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 6.5/10
The Polish keeper made a few decent saves to restrict the opposition from scoring more than twice during the game.
CB: Craig Dawson – 7/10
He won some important headers for his team and did well to keep Romelu Lukaku quiet in the latter stages of the contest.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 7/10
Zouma was a rock at the back as he made several last-ditch clearances inside his half. He picked up an injury and got replaced in the 70th minute.
CB: Issa Diop – 6.5/10
The French defensive ace made a couple of crucial blocks but will be disappointed after conceding two goals during the game.
RM: Vladimír Coufal – 7/10
He cleared his lines when needed and was quite lively in the Chelsea half.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 6.5/10
Soucek managed to offer decent protection for his teammates at the back and engineered one good chance in the final third.
CM: Declan Rice – 7/10
The England international won the ball back a few times in midfield and made some encouraging runs with the ball in the opponent’s half.
LM: Ben Johnson – 6/10
He made a couple of interceptions but struggled to get a stranglehold in the game. He got replaced in the 46th minute.
RAM: Jarrod Bowen – 7.5/10
Bowen caused all kinds of problems for the Chelsea defenders with his tireless running in the final third. He scored a brilliant goal to equalise for West Ham in the second half.
LAM: Manuel Lanzini – 6.5/10
Lanzini kept his composure to score his penalty in the 40th minute. However, he offered very little otherwise in the attacking end of the field.
ST: Michail Antonio – 8/10
The English striker was a great outlet for the Hammers on the counter. He orchestrated a handful of inviting chances for others around him and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
Substitutes:
LB: Arthur Masuaku – 8/10
He was solid at the back and scored a memorable goal in the dying embers of the game to win the derby for West Ham.
CAM: Pablo Fornals – 6/10
The Spaniard offered very little after coming off the bench.
LW: Said Benrahma – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
