According to a recent report by the Italian outlet Calciomercato, West Ham United have joined the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria. The Swiss international is out of contract at the end of the season in June 2022 and is also wanted by Liverpool and Everton. The Hammers are hoping to add another strong dynamic midfielder in their midfield ranks along with Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice. They believe that it would be a steal to rope in Denis Zakaria on a free transfer. With West Ham United now playing in European competitions, David Moyes will surely look to add to his midfield depth.
Zakaria A Midfield Mainstay At Borussia Monchengladbach
The Swiss international joined Gladbach in 2017 and has been an integral part of the squad since then. Zakaria has made 141 appearances for the German club registering 11 goals and 8 assists for them in the meantime. He has had a few setbacks due to injuries, but it is believed that he has fully recovered and is displaying his quality again this season.
Denis Zakaria also played a crucial role in helping Switzerland qualify for the World Cup this year. The 25-year-old is now tipped to play out his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach and move to the Premier League where he is wanted by several clubs including the likes of West Ham United, Liverpool and Everton.
What Will Zakaria Add To West Ham United Boss Moyes’s Squad?
The 25-year-old is a versatile player who can play as a 6 as well as a box-to-box midfielder and also as a centre half if needed. Zakaria is very strong in the air and likes to win duels in the middle of the park and also has the ability to shield the ball and protect the central defenders. He has shown that he can be dominating with the ball at his feet and also without it and has good positional sense to cover for his teammates which is a rare trait to have.
West Ham United currently have minimal options in their midfield department with Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek having to play most of the matches. Mark Noble is also set to retire at the end of the season and it will leave a massive hole in the middle of the park to fill for Moyes. A player of Zakaria’s ability will thus be a valuable addition to David Moyes’s squad. Now it remains to be seen who can rope in the Swiss international with several clubs wanting to have his services.
