Newcastle United faced off against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium earlier today as they hoped to grind out a result on the road. The Magpies kept things solid in the early stages of the game but conceded the opening goal in the 38th minute when Youri Tielemans scored from the penalty spot. Eddie Howe’s men were trailing 1-0 at the half-time break.
Patson Daka doubled Leicester’s advantage close to the hour mark before Youri Tielemans put daylight between the two sides when he found the back of the net again in the 81st minute. James Maddison put the icing on the cake for the home team when he added another goal just four minutes later as Newcastle ended up crashing to a 4-0 defeat in the Premier League.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle player fared during the match against the Foxes.
GK: Martin Dubravka – 5/10
The Magpies goalie made only one save in the game and will be disappointed after conceding four goals today.
RB: Javier Manquillo – 6/10
Manquillo was strong in the air and made some important defensive contributions at the back. However, he offered very little in the final third.
CB: Fabian Schar – 6/10
He made a few crucial clearances at the back but was not able to stop the Foxes from scoring four goals during the 90 minutes.
CB: Jamaal Lascelles – 5/10
Lascelles produced a lackluster display on the defensive end of the field but was at least tidy with his passing.
LB: Jamal Lewis – 6/10
Lewis made one good chance in the final third and was solid at the back for most of the first half. However, he got replaced in the 61st minute.
RM: Miguel Almiron – 6.5/10
Almiron got stuck in with a lot of tackles but failed to influence the game in the attacking end of the field.
CM: Jonjo Shelvey – 6/10
He made a few solid tackles but struggled to get a foothold in the game at the centre of the park.
CM: Joe Willock – 6/10
Willock had a few lively moments in the opposition half. However, he should have contributed more defensively during the 90 minutes.
LM: Allan Saint-Maximin – 7/10
Saint-Maximin caused all kinds of problems for the Leicester defenders with his pace and dribbling ability. However, there was no goal for him today.
ST: Callum Wilson – 6/10
The English striker made a couple of tackles but failed to make an impact in the final third. He didn’t even get a sniff at goal.
ST: Joelinton – 6.5/10
The Brazilian attacker created a couple of decent chances for others around him. He also worked hard to help his teammates out at the back.
Substitutes:
RW: Jacob Murphy – 6.5/10
He engineered two good chances for his teammates to score.
LM: Ryan Fraser – 6/10
Fraser struggled to influence the game.
LB: Matt Ritchie – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
