Leeds United entertained Arsenal at Elland Road earlier this evening as they focused on grinding out a result in front of their home supporters. The Whites made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 16th minute when Gabriel Martinelli smashed the ball in from close range. The Arsenal striker found the back of the net again just 12 minutes later with a good finish. Bukayo Saka also got in on the goal-scoring act with a deflected attempt just before the half-time break. Leeds were trailing 3-0 at the break with a mountain to climb in the second half.
Raphinha got a goal back for the Whites when he successfully converted his penalty in the 75th minute. However, Emile Smith Rowe put the icing on the cake for the Gunners when he got his name on the scoresheet in the 84th minute as the contest finished 4-1 in favour of Mikel Arteta’s men.
Let’s take a look at how each Leeds United player fared during the match against the Gunners.
GK: Illan Meslier – 7/10
The Whites keeper made several crucial saves at the back but still ended up conceding four goals this evening.
RB: Cody Drameh – 6.5/10
Drameh produced a battling display on the defensive end of the field. He made two promising runs with the ball down the right flank.
CB: Robin Koch – 5.5/10
He cleared his lines when required and was strong in the air. However, he was sometimes too slow to react to the danger inside his half.
CB: Luke Ayling – 6/10
Ayling blocked a few shots but was not able to stop the Gunners from scoring four goals during the game.
LB: Stuart Dallas – 6.5/10
He made a few important interceptions at the back and made one key chance in the final third.
CM: Mateusz Klich – 6.5/10
Klich made some last-gasp clearances and engineered a few decent opportunities for his teammates to score.
CM: Adam Forshaw – 6.5/10
The English midfield ace got stuck in with some solid tackles and completed two encouraging dribbles with the ball from midfield.
RM: Raphinha – 6.5/10
The Brazilian winger was a goal-threat from the right-wing and scored a consolation goal for the Whites from the penalty spot in the second half.
CAM: Tyler Roberts – 5.5/10
He was always trying to shoot and was guilty of being a bit wasteful in the attacking end of the field.
LM: Jack Harrison – 5.5/10
Harrison struggled to get a foothold in the game and got substituted in the 30th minute because of an injury.
ST: Joe Gelhardt – 6/10
The talented youngster worked hard but didn’t get a sniff at goal.
Substitutes:
LM: Crysencio Summerville – 6/10
He made one inviting chance in the final third but got substituted in the 80th minute.
ST: Sam Greenwood – 6/10
Greenwood offered very little after coming off the bench.
LM: Liam McCarron – 6/10
He struggled to get into the flow of the game.
