According to Fichajes, Manchester United have joined the race to sign Emmanuel Dennis. The Watford forward has emerged as an ideal target, as the club looks to shore up its attacking options next summer. It remains unknown whether Dennis will be given the license to leave the club, but a lot will depend on how Watford finish the campaign.
Emmanuel Dennis’ Success In The Premier League
Formerly of Club Brugge, Emmanuel Dennis arrived at Watford in the summer for a fee of just €4 million. It was quite a risky move by the newly-promoted Premier League side, considering the fact that the forward was coming on the back of a disastrous spell at Koln that saw him fail to score a single goal in nine Bundesliga appearances.
However, upon his move to England, Dennis has been in extraordinary form for Watford. In just 15 league matches, the Nigerian has netted seven goals while providing five assists. He is by far the most productive player for Watford, and his contributions in front of goal have helped the club remain in the fight for the relegation battle.
Standing at just 1.75m, Dennis might not be the tallest of strikers. But what he lacks in physique, he can make for it with his feisty style of play and the ability to sniff goalscoring opportunities. It has been evident in his performances in the Premier League this season.
A Wise Option For Manchester United?
Manchester United‘s interest in the services of Emmanuel Dennis is quite interesting, given that the forward doesn’t have such a high ceiling as some of the players in the team.
That said, the potential addition of the Watford forward could make sense, as the club prepares for life without Edinson Cavani. The experienced striker has lost his place in the side after the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, thus leading to speculations over his future at the club.
Even if Cavani remains at Old Trafford in January, his current contract at the club expires at the end of the season. That is where Dennis could prove to be a useful addition to the side.
The Nigerian international can serve as an ideal backup for the likes of Ronaldo and Mason Greenwood, helping Ralf Rangnick add some much-needed depth in the goalscoring department.
